Exploring the theology, history and practice of Christian worship

Welcome

The Oxford Liturgists' Network brings together clergy, academics and lay people with a shared interest in the study and practice of Christian liturgy. Founded in 1987, the Network meets regularly in Oxford for lectures, seminars and convivial dinners, drawing on the city's rich tradition of liturgical scholarship.

Our programme spans the breadth of liturgical enquiry — from the patristic rites of the early Church to contemporary questions of inculturation and renewal. We welcome contributions from scholars across the traditions: Anglican, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and Reformed.

What We Do

Each term we host a series of lectures and seminars on themes in liturgical theology, history and practice. Events are typically held in college settings in central Oxford, and most are followed by dinner. Our speakers have included leading figures in liturgical scholarship from Oxford, Cambridge, Rome, and further afield.

Who We Are

The Network is open to all with a serious interest in liturgy — whether academic, pastoral or devotional. Our membership includes parish clergy, cathedral canons, university chaplains, theology students, and lay people with a love of worship in all its forms. There is no formal membership process; simply come along to an event.

Upcoming Highlights

Our next event is currently being arranged and will be announced shortly. See the programme page for details as they are confirmed. In the meantime, visit our What's On page for other liturgy-related events in Oxford this term, including Dr Cosima Gillhammer's lecture series on Light on Darkness: The Untold Story of the Liturgy at the University Church.
